Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center

Challenge

Massina Bloemke of ABCM Corporation, interior designer for Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center, worked closely with Construction Specialties (C/S) to illustrate her vision. Bloemke chose to use C/S’ Acrovyn® Dimensional Moldings because the product has boundless opportunities for custom designs. Bloemke custom-designed Heritage’s main entry corridor using Acrovyn 4000 wall covering, defining the space with floor to ceiling four-inch wall covering bump-outs to create contrasting light and dark surface planes that juxtapose  warm wood tones with painted walls and accent art. This breaks up the long corridor with  a gallery-like atmosphere and invites residents to linger and connect for conversation in the common space.
Product durability was also something Bloemke considered when choosing the Acrovyn® Dimensional Moldings. It’s ideal for high traffic areas, easy to sanitize and doesn’t require an upgrade every five years like similar competitors’ products.

Solution

Acrovyn 4000 is Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Gold or Silver, which assures architects,  designers and building owners there are no chemicals of concern in the wall protection material; moreover, eldercare residents with sensitive respiratory systems aren’t affected  by off-gassing toxins.
Heritage also upgraded its corridors with Acrovyn handrails (HRB-20N). The ergonomic design, which includes more of an oval-shaped surface and indentation, allows for an easy grip from the sitting or standing position. The newly renovated Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center now provides a healthier home for its residents, while the products installed offer the best of both worlds: durable and attractive wall protection.

PARTNERING TO CREATE CUTTING EDGE SOLUTIONS

Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center has been a respected and established part of the Mason City health care continuum since 1973 when ABCM Corporation purchased the former  40-bed William-Charles Heritage Home. Heritage provides both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care with around-the-clock admissions and nursing staff. Also available are physical, occupational and speech therapies and pharmacy services as well as bariatric care, restorative programs, an incontinence clinic and a hospice suite. The home-like environment welcomes residents, families and community members. Over the years, Heritage has consistently invested in facility improvements and recently completed a renovation in March 2013, which included various sustainable products, in addition to upgrading its main entry corridor, new rehabilitation center and snack center.
